Glenda Orr
Trashed and Treasured, 2007
glenda orr
Trashed and Treasured includes alternating embossings and etchings interleaved with text-based pages which reflect on the passion of collecting, the legacy of the past and endangerment. At one level it documents the characters I have met on my Trash and Treasure hunt for axes that will form part of a sculpture I am making as well as a subset of endangered trees that have become threatened, largely because of land clearing. While the obvious association is between the weapon, the axe, and the target, the tree, they can be viewed as sharing a common fate. Both are endangered – like many of Australia’s trees, the lone axeman with his brawn and simple tool are virtually a thing of the past in this mechanised, computerised world. 32 pp. 35 x 25 x 2 cm. Self-published in an edition of 5. $1270
